History At
The Core

Originally a laboratory for shirt manufacturer Cluett Peabody & Company, Catholic Central High School in 1953 bought the sprawling building to house a burgeoning student population. The building encompasses two linked histories: one, an immensely popular school emblematic of phenomenal growth of Catholic families, many with strong immigrant roots, the other of the collar, cuff and shirt industry that made Troy a major industrial city. Troy’s largest employer provided work for the very families who would later support the school. Its workforce of 3,200 employees made “Arrow” shirts; arrows are incorporated into the ornamented bronze doors of the main entrance.
